PAIN management and contemporary pain science.

Changing (not just) the conversation.

Join our panel of clinical and industry experts in conversation, on Wednesday 21 October 2020 from 09:00 – 10:15, in the third of a series of free, live webinars.

Connect Health “Change” bring you the third in a series of webinars to make and embed transformation in healthcare. Aimed at system leaders and clinicians across the NHS, the webinars provide practical solutions to the challenging issues we are all grappling with.

Chronic pain has been described as the most burdensome non-fatal disease facing our species. Pain is complex, it’s poorly understood, and it’s a BIG problem. It’s estimated that a THIRD of people in the UK live with chronic pain they consult their GP 5 times more frequently and report high levels of dissatisfaction with treatment.

Pain affects both our physical and mental health – as many as 50% of people with chronic pain also suffer with depression – as well as our relationships with friends and family, and our ability to work.

The webinar is a must for anyone involved in the design, delivery and commissioning of chronic pain services as well as those involved in public and population-health.

This webinar will:

  • Bring discoveries from the lab and the clinic to change the conversation about pain; flipping how we think about it, talk about it and treat it.
  • Raise questions as well as answers. It will surprise you, and we hope invigorate you, to apply modern pain science and management principles to places where it’s really needed- frontline care delivery.
  • Explore why we; as individuals, as a healthcare system, and as a society; need to flip our understanding of pain.
  • Spark debate around how best to address the problem of chronic pain at an individual, service and population-health level.

We have an impressive line-up of speakers:

Broadly speaking, public understanding, and indeed many healthcare professionals’ understanding, of persistent pain is significantly out of sync with the best scientific evidence. In fact, many things that scientists have known about pain for decades have yet to filter through to the patients and clinicians at the coalface of pain management. This needs to change.
