Connect Health has achieved the ‘Maintaining Excellence,’ Better Health at Work Award for the fourth year in a row – a testament to the organisation’s commitment to promoting improved health and wellbeing in the workplace.

The Better Health at Work Award in the North East and Cumbria is a recognition of the efforts of employers in addressing health issues in the workplace, focusing on the wellbeing of colleagues and promoting the benefits of healthy living.

The ‘Maintaining Excellence’ award is the highest available – and is given to organisations that meet a range of criteria including actively raising awareness of health issues, providing access to wellbeing activities and promoting healthier practices at work.

Connect Health’s journey with the Better Health at Work scheme began four years ago. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of staff and Connect Health’s prioritisation of the wellbeing of their workforce, the organisation retains the highest available

Becky Robson, Chief People Officer said: “I’m thrilled that we have retained our Maintaining Excellence BHAW Award for the fourth year – this is real testament to the team. I’m extremely proud of our advocates for coming up with engaging, fun and informative campaigns that benefit our colleagues. A big well done to the team and I’m looking forward to seeing what they have planned for us this year!”

Some of the initiatives that helped Connect Health secure the award were:

  • Healthy Habits  – this included Health checks from Nuffield Health and healthy eating advice including ‘fake-away’ options.
  • Men’s Health Week – during the Euros they did a ‘check your balls’ campaign and tips around mental health, staying active, and health checks.
  • Alcohol awareness campaign
  • Online support group called Menopause Matters

The ‘Maintaining Excellence’ certification is the fifth level of the award structure and is only presented to companies that can demonstrate a consistent and evolving health and wellbeing strategy for their workforce.

Judges commented: “Clearly, Connect Health has taken on board the recommendations made following last year’s submission. The Health Advocates are passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of colleagues and work cohesively to ensure campaigns are fun and cover relevant topics. It is encouraging to see that the health and wellbeing of colleagues remain a high priority for the organisation and that the EMT values and encourages input from the staff engagement group. Well done to all involved!”
